The young shortstop from Kalamazoo, Mich., grew up in front of their eyes, winning World Series championships and becoming maybe the last of the all-time Yankees greats after Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.

Now with Jeter set to have his No. 2 jersey retired at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night, he’s written his own thank you to New York fans.

In a new piece on Jeter’s own Players’ Tribune , Jeter writes that he loved being No. 2 in the country’s No. 1 city:

The new video brings to mind one of the greatest tributes to Jeter ever.

Namely, sponsor Gatorade’s sensational salute to Jeter to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”
