Announced via the official THQ Nordic Twitter account, Desperados 3 is getting a Collector’s Edition. The premium physical release is set at $120 according to GameStop and it heavily leans in on the Old West motif which works in its favor.

The Collector’s Edition is a hefty premium package with some uniquely Western trinkets. The edition features a physical copy of the game, an Official Artbook, CD Soundtrack, Eight Postcards and the Season Pass which includes “Three New Missions” set for release post launch. The main attraction of this version is the music box that will play a tune from the game and features five interchangeable figurines for the box itself.

Announced nearly two years ago at E3 2018, Desperados 3 was a pleasant surprise for fans of the quirky Strategy franchise. The news of the third entry garnered more interest once the developer was announced to be Mimimi Games, known for its well-received stealth game Shadow Tactics: Battle of the Shogun. The decision to revive the Western Strategy franchise likely came from the increased interest of the Western genre due to the then highly-anticipated release of Red Dead Redemption 2. 

THQ Nordic is putting a lot of faith on Desperados 3 to give it a premium physical release. Despite its cult status, the franchises strange genre combination and long dormancy plays to a niche audience. For an expanded cross-platform release and a Collector’s Edition, THQ Nordic is pushing Desperados 3 to be a prominent 2020 release. Desperados 3 did received early praise by taking home the Gamescom 2019 award for Best Strategy game putting some emphasis on it being the strategy game of 2020.

Desperados 3 has not seen many updates since its reveal two years ago. Outside of the announcement of a delay from 2019 to 2020, the news of a Collector’s Edition is a sign that Desperados 3 is closing in on it’s release date. While it is currently set for a Summer launch, there is justifiable concern that the coronavirus may possibly delay its release as it has other games.

Desperados 3 is set to release Summer of this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
